Lisa Bentley is an illustrator and author of picture books. As a child she was obsessed with reading and would always choose books that invited her in with an exciting book jacket or beautiful illustrations.  She has a vivid imagination and has, for as long as she can remember, used this to write her own stories and illustrate them. As soon as she was able, Lisa picked up a pencil and began to draw and she’s hardly put one down since. She would spend hours as a child creating art works and was actually probably a pretty annoying kid as when asked what she wanted to do the answer would always be ‘colouring in’. This love for visual storytelling carried right through Lisa’s education to Loughborough University where she studied for her degree in Illustration with animation. Since graduating she has become a published illustrator.

Lisa loves to use different art mediums to help her to describe texture, form and emotion and so these vary from project to project. She’ll use whatever materials she can find to communicate visually and mixes these with traditional and digital methods.

Lisa has been a primary school teacher and also runs her own business as a cake artist designing and making hyper realistic cakes. She is also a mother to two small people and when she’s not playing with playdough or picking up toys she devotes the rest of her time to illustrating, writing and cake designing.

She loves spending time with her family, drinking tea and eating cake and dislikes pairing socks, fishy fish and slugs in the house.

Lisa lives in Derby with her partner Dan and their two children.
