Lisa Bentley is a children’s book illustrator and author based in the UK. Known for her vivid imagination and heartfelt illustrations, Lisa creates picture books that delight both children and adults. Her passion for storytelling through art began in early childhood and has only grown stronger over time.
A Love of Stories and Drawing from the Start
As a child, Lisa was obsessed with reading. She always chose books with exciting covers or beautiful illustrations. These visual stories sparked her imagination and inspired her to write and illustrate her own.
From the moment she could hold a pencil, Lisa began drawing—and she’s hardly put one down since. She spent hours creating artwork, often declaring that her dream job was simply “colouring in.” Clearly, this early passion never left her.
Studying to Become a Children’s Book Illustrator
Lisa’s love of visual storytelling led her to study Illustration with Animation at Loughborough University. There, she refined her artistic skills and developed her voice as a children’s book illustrator.
Since graduating, Lisa has illustrated and authored multiple published children’s books. She brings each project to life with a distinctive style and a strong sense of emotion. Her aim is always the same: to spark curiosity and imagination in young readers.
Creative Work, Teaching, and Family Life
In addition to her illustration work, Lisa has worked as a primary school teacher. She also ran her own cake business for several years, designing hyper-realistic cakes that showcased her creativity in a different form.
At home, Lisa is a mother to two young children. When she’s not playing with playdough or picking up toys, she’s either writing, drawing, or baking. Somehow, she still finds time for tea and cake!
Life in Derby and Getting in Touch
Lisa Bentley lives in Derby, UK, with her partner Dan and their two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, drinking tea, and eating cake. On the other hand, she’s not a fan of pairing socks, fishy fish, or slugs in the house.
